PELJESAC PENINSULA
Peljesac Peninsula is located in the south part of the dalmatian Coast. It is 70km long and 3km wide and it has a surface size of approx 8000 km². Peljesac is almost parallel to the coastline, it is thin at the bottom at there is no problem to go from the one side to the other. The terrain is mountainous, it was formed together with Dinaric Alps.
Peljesac Peninsula is because of his crystal clear water and mild climate one of the most popular tourist destinations in this part of Croatia. The region was numerously visited by tourists already in the sixties of the 20th century and all the years before Yugoslavia broke up. After the Croatian War of Independence and the stabilization of the boarders in this region the number of tourists on the Peljesac Peninsula raised and it is equal as it was before the war.
You can reach Peljesac - without a ferry - only through the town Ston, located in the south part of Dalmatia. The west part of the peninsula is divided from the Island of Korcula by the Strait of Pelješac. Nearby the middle part of the peninsula is located the island of Mljet, only small strait divides the island from the peninsula. Through the strait run regular ferries. On the Peljesac Peninsula you can find sand and gravel beaches, the biggest is the Trstenica beach, it is 1500m long. The most popular places on the peninsula are Orebic, Trpanj, Trstenica.
